they leave this on your pillow everyday in heaven

it’s a bit of a late night at work, so i’m breaking with a therapeutic post. went on a matcha binge the other night at genki. i have a serious problem, but at least it’s not meth, heroine, or gambling. instead of losing teeth or injecting opiates into my neck, i suffer the crippling self-loathing that comes with being a sad sack of flaccid fat.

MATCHA treats

i’m very particular about green tea anything, but it’s only because i love it so much. when it comes to ice cream, it’s absolutely mandatory that it’s from polly ann. this is partly why these popsicles are one of my fave treats. they taste like polly ann and remind me of pudding pops.

MATCHA treats

both bars are good, but i’m partial to the meiji one. in general, i’m a fan of meiji chocolate bars. they surprise me with how uniquely delightful they are. anyway, this kind of matcha chocolate (as opposed to say, truffles with a green tea ganache center) is intense; don’t think it’s for everyone. most people who’ve sampled them are ambivalent, but i’m obsessed. the smooth, bitter creamy undertones have a nice edge, offset by the perfect amount of sweetness. one drawback is that i suspect i’m eating white chocolate (which i detest) into which they poured five tons of matcha (which i like).

Oh man… the creami-greeniness…! I salivate. Matcha is such a pretty color. In the early days of green tea flavoring becoming popular, I would dismiss anything with green tea in it (besides green tea) as gimmicky. But now I just find it delicious. I’m not quite a green tea ice cream connoisseur, but I do remember fondly how the Maeda-en brand has a slight fishy (?) flavor to it. I like it. I want some now, in fact.

eradicate the self-loathing! although ‘sad sack of flaccid fat’ has a nice ring to it. but it doesn’t seem to carry an ounce of truth.

i’m going to have to check these bars out in little tokyo. i wouldn’t mind the white chocolate for the matcha. in fact… how would green tea-chocolate really taste? (as opposed to aforementioned truffles with green tea ganache centers)

Don’t know if you remember, but there was this fantastic line of chocolate bars (back before all the true “exotic” bars came out, like Visoges, et. al) that I still long for called…I can’t remember.
But they made a green tea chocolate with crisped brown rice that still haunts me. Milky, with a hint of bitterness, and the round warmth of roasted rice: everything that I love about genmai-cha, but chocolate.
