The Unforgotten Coat by Frank Cottrell Boyce
Although this book is about two Mongolian boys, who immigrates to the United
Kingdom, this is the only immigration story for children from Mongolia into the
western English-speaking world. Because it is relatable to the immigration
experience into the US and the lack of children’s books featuring Mongolian Americans, The Unforgotten Coat remains a meaningful contribution to the
AAPI community in America.
Passage to Freedom: The Sugihara Story by Ken Mochizuki
While this is a story of a Japanese diplomat in Lithuania, this story is relevant to
the American experience. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, thousands of
Japanese Americans were locked up in internment camps in the US. Yet many
Japanese Americans continued to fight against the Axis Powers in WW2 as US
soldiers. This Japanese man was among those who risked his life to rescue
hundreds Jews from the Holocaust during WW2.
